West Sussex County Council Libraries
Description
We are currently delivering a county-wide CCTV upgrade programme for West Sussex County Council, installing 22 bespoke systems across library sites. The project has been initiated to strengthen safeguarding measures and improve overall security within public-facing environments.
Libraries are vital community spaces, and the council has a clear duty of care to both staff and visitors. By implementing modern CCTV systems, the aim is to enhance safety, discourage anti-social behaviour, and provide robust property protection.
Each location has been individually assessed to ensure the system installed is fit for purpose, reflecting the unique layout and operational requirements of every site.
Requirements
To meet the council’s objectives, several key requirements were identified:
- Improve safeguarding for both staff and members of the public
- Provide a visible security presence to help deter and manage behaviour
- Deliver reliable evidence capture for incident review if required
- Ensure full site coverage tailored to each individual library layout
- Maintain a consistent standard across all 22 locations while allowing for bespoke design
- Install systems that are secure, easy to operate, and future-proof
Every site required a full survey, risk assessment, and custom system design, ensuring that all vulnerabilities were addressed and coverage optimised.
Technology
Each installation has been completed using high-quality, industry-proven equipment:
- 5MP dome cameras by Dahua Technology with static lenses for clear, consistent image capture
- Dahua Network Video Recorders (NVRs) providing secure and efficient video storage and management
- PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches to streamline installation and improve reliability
- Blue screened Cat6 cabling, allowing clear identification from other services across each site
All head-end equipment is installed within secure, lockable cabinets, with adjacent local viewing monitors to enable quick and convenient playback when required.
